Policy Mix

Other Policies

Research is funded in various different policy domains. The Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (OCW) and the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Agriculture and Innovation (EL&I) are the largest ministries responsible for R&D funding based on their annual budgets (see the table below with figures on R8D funding of all Dutch ministries). The Ministry of EL8I is the result of the 2010 merger between the Ministry of Economic Affairs (EZ) and the Ministry of Agriculture, Nature and Food Quality (LNV) and therefore listed separately in the table. Other ministries in addition to OCW and EL8I also have knowledge and innovation policies aimed at their own specific knowledge requirements and policy objectives, but their role in the national innovation policymaking and delivery is relatively small. The most important ministries with regard to research are the Ministry of Health, Welfare and Sport (VWS), the Ministry of Transport, Public Works and Water Management (VenW) (currently part of the Ministry of Infrastructure and the Environment).
