Major Activties

KIAT conducts various activities to promote technological policy, including: medium and long-term planning and result analysis; the construction of an industrial technology infrastructure; and the transfer and commercialization of industrial technology.

1. To Develop National Technology Strategy

- The "Technological Strategy Division studies and suggests national policies to promote industrial technology, as well as provides comprehensive technological development blueprints

* The Technological Strategy Division investigates, analyses and researches the drawing up of industrial technology related policies. The result of national investment to industrial technology is systematically analysed, and it is then reviewed to propose policies for effective alternatives. By using advanced techniques, the Technological Strategy Division sets integrated technology blueprints for the development of medium and long-term national technology strategy. Also, by collecting and providing trends and statistics related to industrial technology policies, the division helps corporation-university research programs formulate technological strategy.

Policy study and result analysis

The division creates new knowledge and information, suggests feasible technological issues and systematically analyses the result of investment in R&D.

2. To Enlarge Global Technological Coopeartion

- The Technological Coopeartion Division exchanges issues on up-to-date industrial technology together with engineers and researchers from all over the world, initiating the era of global technological cooperation

* The Technological Cooperation Division supports the international joint technological development of domestic corporations, universities and research centers. Through connections with major foreign technological organizations, the division leads global technological exchanges and innovation through up-to-date collection and analysis of industrial technology related information from all over the world.

3. To Support for Technology Transfer and Commercialization

- The Commercialization Support Division establishes commercialization promotion system and transfers technologies developed. It also supports globalization of technology-based companies

* The Commercialization Support Division identifies excellent technological assets and manages a global technological information service network for the commercialization of technology and the effectiveness of investment in R&D. The division provides funds for technology commercialization in the future growth driver fields, and encourages the growth of global technology-based corporations by linking them with technology funds, The division promotes business-oriented networks of corporations, universities and research institutes, to transfer and commercialize technology for public use. It also supports the establishemnt of an infrastructure for the utilization of intellectual property rights.

4. To establish Infrastructure

- The Infrastructure Support Division assists in the establishment of infrastructure fundamental to national R&D activities

* The Infrastructure Support Division improves the competence of engineers and researchers on the scene and fosters manpower to meet the demands of the future. In addition, it increases technology-friendly awareness towards people and boosts the pride of researchers and engineers.

 The division assists in manpower fostering projects for companies and supports preliminary survey and result analysis to foster engineers as required by industrial demand.

5. To forster Regional Industry

- The Regional Industry Division studies and suggests policies for the specialized development of each region in Korea, and manages related projects such as the fostering of promising industries for metropolitan ecnomoies and the promotion of regional strategic industries

* The Regional Industry Division devises schemes to reform regulations, plans programs, and conducts policy study and result analysis to support a new regional balanced development policy centered upon “enhancing competitiveness of metropolitan economies, developing characteristics of each region, and region-led development.” The division also conducts specialized education and regional investment promotion expositions to expand the outcome of the regional policies.

Studying regional industry supporting policy

The division clarifies the direction of regional industry policy for the specialized development of each region, through researching regional industry supporting policy, supportive program planning, and result analysis.

6. To Support Parts & Materials Industry

- The Parts & Materials Support Division formulates policies for the advancement of the parts and materials industry in Korea, and provides various infrastructure for the development of parts and materials manufacturers.

* The Parts & Materials Support Division assists in improving the competitiveness of the parts and materials industry of Korea by helping strengthen innovative capability, through activities such as medium and long-term planning, securing core technologies and reliability bases, and the support of specialized parts manufacturers. For such, the division promotes knowledge exchange between corporations, universities and research institutes. It also provides various infrastructures including reliability, fostering of manpower and international exhibitions, that are necessary to enhance the competitiveness of parts and material manufacturers.

The division improves the innovative capability of parts and materials companies by establishing industry-oriented policies and constructing industry development infrastructure.
